The UW-Extension Local Government Center (LGC) is publishing this announcement of statewide programs on a monthly basis. It includes Extension programming and other programs of interest relating to local government that are offered in Wisconsin. Asterisked (*) programs are Cooperative Extension programs. * May 8-10, 15-17, 22, 2012 – “County Officials Workshops” – UW-Extension’s Local Government Center and the Wisconsin Counties Association. Cost: $65; late registrations $75. Includes lunch. These workshops for new and continuing county officials include sessions on the structure and process of county government, Wisconsin’s Open Meetings laws, how to run effective meetings, efficiency initiatives and county budgeting, ethics and conflicts of interest, and an update on state and county interests. May 11, 18, June 8, 2012 – “New Officials Workshops” – League of Wisconsin Municipalities. Cost: $60 member/$85 non-member. The League of Wisconsin Municipalities, in cooperation with the Department of Professional Development and Applied Studies, Local Government Center, UW-Extension and the Department of Engineering Professional Development, UW-Madison, is sponsoring a one-day workshop for new city and village officials. This Workshop provides a basic course on local government for officials who assumed office this spring. Other city and village officials who wish to brush up on their knowledge oflocal government or missed the previous annual workshops may also find the meetings beneficial and are welcome to register and attend. May 16-17, 22-23, 2012 – “Project Management Certificate” – Certified Public Manager Program. 8:30 am – 3:15 pm, Pyle Center, Madison. Cost: Part 1, $215; Parts 1 & 2, $405. In Part 1 of this two-part program you learn the skills you need to be an effective project manager, including the steps in the project process and the tools and techniques of project management. In Part 2, experienced project managers share examples of successful project management in fields such as information technology, planning and development, or public health. You also practice project management through team-based activities related to actual or simulated projects.
