Accessible Raised Bed Vegetable/Herb Garden Demonstration

Master Gardeners are offering a raised bed garden building and planting demonstration at Broadway Market Garden on Saturday, June 3rd at 12:00 pm.. The garden is located at the corner of Hammond Ave and Broadway in Superior. The public is encouraged to attend.

“Raised beds are often a preferred method for developing vegetable gardens in our region”, explained Jane Anklam, UW- Extension Horticulture Educator. “Our clay soils are slow to warm in the spring, and the raised beds allow for quicker warming and drying for a spring planting.”

Master Gardeners Laura Birnbaum and Janet Quaderer will be conducting the demonstration constructing a raised bed that is accessible for those with limited mobility or flexibility.  Vegetables and herbs will be selected for the gardens that are suited for raised beds and our local growing conditions.  The material for the project has been donated by Campbell Lumber of Superior and Dan’s Feed Bin

Master Gardeners are a volunteer arm of the UW Extension, sharing university horticultural research information with their community.
